Anti-Bribery in China

During the fall of 2014, the Chinese subsidiary of GlaxoSmithKline (“GSK”), a global pharmaceutical giant, was convicted of “Bribery to Non-Governmental Personnel Crime” in the court of People’s Republic of China (“PRC”) by giving bribes to healthcare practitioners and hospitals to boost the sales of its subscription of drugs. Among others, GSK was fined by RMB 3 billion and the legal representative and other responsible senior management personnel of GSK were sentenced for 2-4 years’ imprisonment.
